You don't have to follow God, but that decision is an eternal one. After the flood, God declared He would no longer use his power to compel man to worship Him.
And so post flood, God uses His supernatural power to work out His will and to show He is there, not to compel our behavior.
That does not make God any less powerful or with any less authority, it makes Him a benevolent God. Meanwhile, if you get the chance read CS Lewis's book, The Screwtape Letters, you might really enjoy it.
Not sure where you conclude I agree with everything you said, perhaps you should reread what I wrote. If you believe that doing evil has no consequences, then you basically believe this life is all there is... I don't.
