Wake up and smell the coffee, Umair. When you look at which economy has the resources to respond to Covid 19 virus and the health care system with the capacity to respond, only one economy comes to mind… the USA. When this thing is over measure which country had the lowest mortality rate… you can’t in them all… but thanks to capitalism we will win more than most countries in this fight.

I don’t know anyone that thinks “capitalism” will prevent the virus from coming to the US. But so far it seems only capitalism has the built in flexibility to respond to a pandemic. Every day more and more of the economy is flexing toward supporting the effort to bring the virus under control. Soon just like our economic system did in WW2, we will be producing so much that we will be supplying much of the world things they need like ventilators…

And yes people really need the country to continue generating economic activity… that farmer working his ass off to feed this country may want to enjoy the reward of a new pair of jeans… It makes him feel better when he wakes up each morning at 5 AM and begins his twelve hour day.

I go out each day and “consume” on purpose (practicing social distancing when doing so) by visiting the small mom and pop restaurants struggling to make it.

These small shops started because some individual dreamed of earning a profit by satisfying consumers with a great food, service, and atmosphere are what capitalism is all about… I want them to be there when this pandemic ends…
