This is the statistic (per Bing AI) you have to impact...

"...studies have shown that approximately 80% or more of firearm homicides in certain cities can be linked to gang-activity."

Studying gun violence reveals some interesting insights, that the media fails to address in its attempt to persuade people that gun laws are the answer.

If you exclude the areas in the US that have very high gang activity, it turns out US gun violence is on par with Europe. So, if our current gun violence rates are on par with Europe in 95% of the country, how would gun laws impact the 5% of counties that have most of our gun violence.

Many of those counties actually do have tough gun laws and they have not worked. All of that suggests the solution is not gun laws, but something else.

That something else is where our country is in denial. Instead of passing laws that prevent people from protecting themselves, we should address what are the underlying serious issues present in those 5% of US counties, that account for 73% if all murders. Keep in mind, over 52% of our counties have no murders, much less gun murders.

Ignorance characterizes people's views of gun violence in America. Though I sometimes, think gun violence is used by gun control advocates to promote an ideology, rather than address gun violence and that is shameful.

The common characteristics of the 5% of counties with the vast majority of gun violence are poverty, gang activity, illegal drug distribution sites, and a culture of violence. I am not sure how gun laws will address those issues.

So, why do you think politicians play to voters promising miracles if only we pass tough gun laws. Frankly, legalizing all drugs and any other form of income gangs use to generate income would do far more to reduce gun violence. But that would come with a different set of problems.

Alternatively, what did work in the past, was stop and frisk laws against gang members, long prison sentences for gun crimes, random home searches against individuals who are known gang members and have been previously convicted of gun violence or illegal drug crimes.

Not surprisingly the UK is also falling victim to this same phenomenon. So how do you stop gun violence in the UK, when the laws are not working?
