This article may provide some insight into why girls and woman choose to dress as they do… I suspect it extends to costumes…

As a father, I got a bit of a laugh out of this piece. I was the one saying, “why don’t you dress like a “doctor” or how about ghost. When they were young, we convinced them to go as a “pumpkin” (they were so cute).

But my girls were more into fantasy. I think the truth is that Halloween allows women to indulge a bit in some of their fantasies… so guys dream of being superheroes and woman fantasize about being princesses…

But the modern image of a “princesses” has changed… no longer are they helpless waiting for princes to rescue them…

The modern princess is a leader, accomplished, capable, etc. Whether you look at the princesses in Frozen or Moana, they save their people, they are not saved. Is that such a bad goal for a little girl to have? Save the world and look good doing it…
