"There is no complexity or nuance in the annihilation of an ethnic/religious/racial minority."

The problem with your premise is it is not true with respect Israel.

The Jews are not an ethnic/religious/or racial majority in Israel. Neither are the Muslims a minority. There populations are almost the same.

Moreover, most of the Palestinians live in the "Palestinian" territories (around 70% of all Muslims and an even higher percentage of Palestinians). There they are largely left to self-govern themselves except when they attack Jews.

The issue is they claim all the land of Israel from the "river to the sea". As such, a more accurate view is to see what is going on as a territorial dispute between the Palestinians and Israel. Palestine's refusal to recognize Israel's right to its territory confirmed by the UN forms the basis for this territorial dispute.

Unable to combat Israel military superiority, many Palestinians feel violence will be the only way for them to assert their claims to Israel. And to avoid the retaliatory power of the Israeli army, they melt into the Palestinian population using women and children as "shields".

If Palestine would recognize Israel's lands and focus on building a Palestinian nation in the occupied territories and work toward the two-state solution, I think most of Israel would welcome that.
