There are a lot of reasons why we could be headed to another civil war. The greatest one would be if the Democrats attempt to pack the Supreme Court. Why would this singular act be so divisive?

Trump has filled the Supreme Court with Constitutional judges. If he loses and Republicans lose both Houses of Congress, the Democrats will have the ability to pass legislation as long as it does not undermine the Constitution or the civil rights of the minority which it is designed to protect.

The Founding Fathers were amazingly forward thinking. Their design of the Supreme Court and Senate was meant to moderate how "wildly" a country like France could swing from a conservative monarchy to what today would have been labeled a progressive liberal mob ruled nation. They saw the need to install "brakes" into our government process.

These "brakes" are the reason why states with such distinctly different cultures and traditions were willing to form a "more perfect union". As the name implies... not a "single" entity... but a more perfect "union" of entities with significant differences.

If Democrats play with the Supreme Court to breakdown the protections that such an institution provides... then I suspect a Civil War is a real risk... still unlikely given our military... but a risk... and even without a "hot" war... a "cold" war could be just as devastating to our country.
