The majority of humans are not perfect specimens of their sex, nor are they even maximizing on their potential. There will be many instances where women will outperform men in any given sport.

As an example, in college I was a scholarship athlete (football) and I could bench press 345 lbs. Not bad, probably better than 95% or more of women.

Other players on my team could bench well into the 400s, even better. But less than 10 NFL players can bench as much or more than the record held by Rae-Ann Coughenour-Miller, who holds the female record at 605 lbs.

But Rae-Ann's record, who is competitive with the best NFL football players on record at the bench press, does not come close to the best man. Jimmy Kolb who holds the "equipped bench press record" has benched 1401 lbs!

I think this example makes the point. Most athletes are not "elite" athletes and among non-elite athletes, women are often more than competitive, they kick butt. But I also think every male athlete I know, knows that.

So, I wonder who these males are that you are referring to. Where did you find them? Do they really exist? If you said, there are men who believe in a given sport that they can play against professional women athletes even if they are not, I believe that. Like the 15-year-old boys soccer team that beat the US Women's National Team in a scrimmage. But I suspect if those same boy's played Venus Williams in tennis, they would expect her to wipe the court with them.
