The citizens of western nations are waking up to the fact that their governments have disenfranchised them of their individual human right to pursue happiness in favor of globalism and the "greater good" as determined by the elite. While such actions take the form of protecting people from disease and climate change, people are experiencing them as the loss of freedom and a decline in their standard of living.

These populist movements are not a lurch to the "right", there is nothing "right wing" about people wanting greater individual freedom, better standards of living, and less government regulation in their lives.

Perhaps a more accurate description is the historical classical liberalism with its focus on individual liberty and the right to pursue happiness is pushing back on 19th century neo-Marxism, which has become a tool of the elite rather than against the elite.
