The case should stand on its own. And I made that clear. A person who commits a hate crime should be prosecuted under those laws.

However, the article was not about the one case. It inferred that Stand Your Ground laws would lead to more race based shootings. I doubt that.

My point is given African Americans are the overwhelming targets of gun violence by other African Americans the ability to defend themselves is what Stand Your Ground is about.

Taking that right away under the pretense that Stand Your Ground laws will lead to more racist shootings seems a stretch and unfair to African Americans, who have already lost some protection due to police defunding initiatives.

The article was a great example of using a tragedy to promote bad policy.
