I think the UK and all of the developed world took their eyes off the prize. Making life better for their citizens, instead they all got wrapped up in global warming... jetting around the world in their fuel guzzling jets as they figured out how to impose harsh restrictions on their citizens, then along came Covid, and they got a second chance to flex their bureaucratic power.
