Scared about what… racism… Five of my six grandchildren are African American with one of the five having some Hispanic genes to boot. My wife is Asian, so racial diversity is not something we pay lip service to, it is something we practice as a family.
Sad, that you don’t realize that it was the Republicans who led the effort to abolish slavery and were behind the civil rights movement of the 60s, when southern Democrats tried to stop it … It was southern Democrats that passed the Jim Crow laws. And don’t forget LBJ’s famous quote:
“These Negroes, they’re getting pretty uppity these days and that’s a problem for us since they’ve got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now we’ve got to do something about this, we’ve got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference. For if we don’t move at all, then their allies will line up against us and there’ll be no way of stopping them, we’ll lose the filibuster and there’ll be no way of putting a brake on all sorts of wild legislation. It’ll be Reconstruction all over again.”
You should do a little history research on the Bourbon Democrats who trace their roots back to Andrew Jackson. They represent the “power” base that has largely shaped Democratic policies for over two hundred years and continues to do so today… except today they have names like “the Swamp or the Elite”.
While Obama mastered “identity politics” as a strategy (his background as a community organizer was perfect for perfecting these techniques), the idea of identity politics is actually quite old and quite common as a tool used by Democrats. Democrats have always been about putting together coalitions rather than underlying values and policies, which is why their platform is so disconnected at times. An ad hoc collection of “red meat” issues.
Trump was not a racist… go back and actually read what he said regarding the Charlottesville march… actual word for word not just the edited quotes so often presented by the media claiming he was a racist. Now quote me the line in context where he condoned white supremacy… you will find he called white supremacists bad actors contrast that with Biden who called a leader of the KKK “a friend”. You might be surprised at how badly you have been mislead.
The Republican party has always been about one America based on shared values comprised of racially, culturally, religiously, and ethnically diverse people. Those shared values are largely reflected in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Gettysburg Address, and MLK’s famous “Dream speech”. It is hard to find exactly what values the Democrats stand for because they are mostly about holding power through political means. As an aside, I am referring to the Democratic party and its leadership, not the mislead people who constitute its membership.
