Not a "victim", but a product. At some level ultimate power resides with the people. The majority of Americans want the country to be safer, offer greater job opportunity, better wages, and individual freedom. Trump proposed policies that might work, under Biden/Harris the country only worked for around 20-30% of Americans, that won't cut it in a democracy.
No one is as powerful as they think. Roman Emperors were murdered in their baths by their bodyguards. CEO of companies tumble also. Louis the XVI lost his "head". And the Czar of Russia during WW1 was executed.
Savvy politicians realize without "the masses" supporting them their grip on power is tenuous.
