Most of the cost of immigration is paid for at the local level and by states in which immigrants reside. The Federal government pays very little toward the cost of immigration. It is one reason, California squawked like crazy during the 80s, before "the wall" on the California border was built and reduced illegal immigration by 90% along its border.

So, I am not sure what your response refers to. You don't pay the cost of law enforcement, health care, housing subsidies, schools, emergency services, etc. through Federal taxes. Nor are you impacted by effect of illegal workers depressing wage levels for low-income workers and tradesmen. But you are making my point for me. Those higher income areas of the country should be taking on the burden of supporting these immigrants, since as you so eloquently point out, they have the money. Thanks for pointing that out.

You will never "solve" the problem of illegal immigration and the truth is under Trump we reduced illegal immigration to a level that should have been offset by an increase in legal immigration. I think Trump over focused on reducing the supply of labor for low wage workers as a means to push up wages (which is why low wage workers saw the greatest increase in real income in decades under Trump). But we were developing a worker shortage in areas that should have been addressed through a merit-based immigration policy that increased immigration levels but targeted areas where worker shortages were impacting the economy.

Illegal immigration under Trump got low enough, that to some extent, it was a net positive (the negatives that come with illegal immigration include sex trafficking, cartel members crossing the border, and other criminals alongside all the good people that also enter). But under Biden, the numbers of illegal immigrants increased to an estimated 4.9 million including "got aways" over his first 19 months in office. This was an almost four-fold increase by some estimates and the problem is most of the increase was from immigrants illegally entering along our southern border. Why is this a big problem?

The two primary sources of illegal immigration are illegal entry into the US by crossing our borders or intentionally overstaying a temporary visa. Both are illegal, but from a "social burden" perspective, those who overstay their visas are spread far more evenly than those who enter at the southern border.

Biden's administration acknowledged this and earlier this year it began moving immigrants to other cities by plane at night. But complaints from mayors and governors in the states these immigrants were being transported to seems to have ended the program. So, the border state governors have taken on the cost of doing so.

It really is pretty simply. If you support Biden's immigration policies, then it is only fair to spread the immigrants over the whole country in order to better spread the social costs of immigration on the whole country and also to give the immigrants access to jobs, since at this point, the border towns are running out of jobs and competition is simply depressing wages.

Less you think this a Republican issue... you might enjoy this fact...

The left’s red hot fury over Republican governors relocating illegal immigrants to deep blue cities is being served up with a side of hypocrisy with no similar "outrage being expressed toward the city of El Paso, which is run by Democrats and also sending busloads of migrants to New York City."
