You are correct, the Creator could have imprinted all knowledge on all minds, but chose not to. Given how Genesis speaks to our abuse of knowledge and the history of man is pretty consistent that we abuse knowledge... perhaps he had good reason not to.

There is a theory that God planted in all humans a "God" gene that predisposes humans to spirituality. It is called the VMAT 2 gene. This gene not only causes man to seek God, but gives us optimism in the face of knowing our mortality.

Regarding faith...

Throughout the Bible God reveals Himself to man and still man rejects God. So, perhaps your premise regarding there should be no need for faith is not true. Since even when seeing is believing... people don't believe.

After Thomas walked with Jesus for years and saw Jesus perform supernatural miracles and die and then appear before him, he still doubted what he saw with his own eyes.
