In raw numbers the number of people who died in Biden's first 10.5 months in office (382,861), that number slightly surpassed the number who died while Trump was President (385,343). The number of people who have died since mid-November of 2021 is 289,300.

Politically, that stinks for Biden, since he was critical of Trump's handling of Covid and truthfully, even with the benefit of Trump's funded vaccine, improved therapeutic treatments including Paxlovid and natural immunity the chance of dying of Covid has been blunted but the absolute reduction is far less than people think since the sheer number of people getting infected has soared. Some people are getting infected multiple times like my daughter that tested positive twice in three months.

Some have argued that the soaring infection numbers are due to improved testing access, but given the death rate, when all is said and done, Covid remains a serious threat to the elderly and at-risk population.

But my point was twofold. First, for all Biden's blustering when he was running for President about Trump's failure and what he would achieve... it was lies. Covid does not care what a President says or promises.

However, more importantly was my second point, while Biden or anyone else cannot really "protect" you from Covid, there are things you can do to help yourself.

I outlined those things, one of the easiest is to take Vitamin D, antioxidant, and Zinc supplements. These things boost your innate immunity system. Combined with vaccination or natural immunity which provides acquired immunity, you have a pretty good chance individually surviving Covid if you contract it.

Nothing is a sure thing, when you get in your car and drive somewhere you could die. But there are things you can do (like buckle your seat belt) and things you shouldn't do (like drink) that improve your chances of avoiding a serious accident.

I am concerned that the state of California recently signed into legislation a law that restricts what a physician can tell a patient regarding Covid. Since we are still learning what works and does not work, it is unlikely that the state will stay current with the rate of change in Covid treatment. Hopefully, the Supreme Court will strike this law down.

Hopefully, the raw numbers above as well as the relative risk numbers provide you the data points to do the granular calculations you seek.

It should be noted that part of the reduction in the Covid death rate has been a change in the definition of "Covid" death. Early on some of the Covid deaths reflected people who died with Covid not because of Covid. So, the raw reduction in Covid deaths is partially due to a less than apples to apples comparison.

Also, on top of Covid deaths, many of the steps done to prevent the spread of Covid led to what is called excess deaths.

So, in 2021, this number was 467,000, an increase of 100,000 over 2020. Excess deaths are an actuarial calculation of the number of people who died over what historically would have died. So, it captures both Covid deaths and things like suicides and substance abuse deaths called by people being isolated.

As an aside, I don't blame Biden for these deaths, he lied about being able to prevent them and some of the steps taken to avoid Covid deaths have led to people dying for other reasons, but I don't think there is much any President can do, that both Trump and Biden did not do.

If I were critical of Biden, I would say, the current vaccine which just came out this September should have been out last Spring when it was promised, but the FDA has gone back to its usual slow bureaucratic ways under Biden.
