Impeachment according to the Founding Fathers was designed so a “country” could remove a President and not a party. Read Hamilton discussing impeachment… well worth reading…

He feared exactly what the Democrats are doing…
“The prosecution of them, for this reason, will seldom fail to agitate the passions of the whole community, and to divide it into parties more or less friendly or inimical to the accused. In many cases it will connect itself with the pre-existing factions, and will enlist all their animosities, partialities, influence, and interest on one side or on the other; and in such cases there will always be the greatest danger that the decision will be regulated more by the comparative strength of parties, than by the real demonstrations of innocence or guilt.”

The only statistic that really matters as it relates to impeachment is 87% of Republicans oppose impeachment. That is all you need to know. Don’t Democrats matter? Not really, as Hamilton knew, it is not unexpected that an opposing party would want to impeach a President, so it was important to make it almost impossible for them to do so. And I think the Founding Fathers achieved that.
It is why Pelosi was right on the money when she said anything other than a bipartisan decision to impeach the President was a waste of time. She was right and her words effectively confirm the design of “impeachment”.
Now what Democrats should feel ashamed about is knowing that impeachment was reserved as a means for a country (on a bipartisan basis) to remove a President and turning around and cheapening it for political advantage. I think they hope they will shake loose a Senate seat or two in the next election and smear a sitting President. My guess is the American people are far to smart to fall for these shenanigans, time will tell. For the sake of the nation, I hope the whole thing blows up in the face of the Democrats in 2020. Then hopefully, a new Democratic party will arise, one unwilling to use impeachment as a political tool and we can get back to the normal fights that wrack the Congress and natural friction that exists between parties and branches of government.
