If you want to be a good writer, you must learn to see with your sees rather than repeat what you hear.
I see no attempt by Trump to suppress the rights we all have under the Bill of Rights. Trump may be a bully and a womanizer, but that does not impact me.
The Progressive Democrats want to limit freedom of religion, freedom of the press, freedom of speech, and the right to bear arms.
They got a FISA warrant to spy on the opposition party based on an unverified dossier (4th Amendment violation) and are seeking Trump’s tax returns without evidence of a crime (4th Amendment violation). Whether you think Trump “should” share his tax returns is different than whether Americans or individuals in government have a right to “demand” to see them.
And finally the tenth Amendment, which gives to states the powers not specifically given to the Federal government by the Constitution. The most recent example of this is the Affordable Care Act, which no matter how much you support it or don’t support it is simply not a power given to the Federal government and was only upheld last time on the basis it was a “tax”.
More recently, the Progressive Democrats want to change the Electoral college system or possibly switch to a system which supports the provides the “majority” the ability to oppress the minority by eliminating the many checks and balances in the Constitution.
If you don’t support the Bill of Rights and the Constitution if they stand in the way of the Progressive agenda then say so… but as a writer, you should write the truth rather than repeat what you hear. For years, it was the Conservatives that tried to limit the “equal rights” of all people, but in recent years there has been a massive “role reversal” with Republicans largely protecting civil liberties and Progressives largely trampling on them in favor of what they perceive as the “greater good”.
And this is the real issue… are the civil liberties that we enjoy as Americans and which protect us from things like “facism” worth protecting even when they stand in the way of what “progressives” argue is the “greater good”. Or should we all accept that civil liberties as spelled out by our constitution are the only guarantee that we won’t be subjected to a government that controls our lives and that in the end such governments always become corrupted and hence oppressive no matter what their initial intention.
