I would prefer someone conservative populist than Trump be the Republican nominee... But Liz Cheney and the rest of the January 6th hearing members may actually be helping Trump. Their focus on the past, when the present is collapsing around them has the country viewing both Biden and Congress with contempt and remembering how much better the economy was under Trump before the pandemic hit. Biden's inability to tame the pandemic has caused people to reevaluate Trump's performance during it and determine given what we know now... at least Trump gave the world the vaccine.

The best way for Democrats to "beat" Trump is to focus on fixing the economy. But they are distracted by Trump. They don't know how to pivot to what matters to most Americans.

By 2023, the hearings will be history and the country may well be in recession. If Biden stays fixated on climate change, which only 1% consider their top issue, then he is toast. The top three issues Americans rate as their number 1 issue are inflation (33%), gas prices (15%), the economy (9%). Notice, climate change and January 6th are not on the list.

Trump will pound away with "remember what gas prices were when I was in office... or remember inflation was around 2% and mortgage rates were under 3%. Remember we had so many jobs and the economy was growing. " Meanwhile, the Dems will say remember those "hearings" we held two years ago and we determiend that Trump could not be charged with anything?

Democrats need to get back into the game... we don't need more spending (more inflation) or any other government handouts... the people have learned the cost of those handouts far exceed their short lived benefits.

We need to get "goods" moving on our highways and into our stores, we need factories humming putting out goods and farms putting out food. We need new sources of fossil fuels and increased gas refining capacity. We need to continue to add to our renewable energy output but not at the cost of less fossil fuels until we don't need fossil fuels.

That won't happen with renewable energy, so we need to add nuclear plants that will keep the lights on at night.
