I think Trump is interested in hydroxychloroquine because there appears to be significant anecdotal evidence that it works (see link below). Just as importantly, hydroxychlorquine is a generic with a known safety profile which means it could be prescribed as a prophylactic therapy to high risk individuals for around $20/week… Some of the other “patented” branded drugs or expensive plasma serums would cost far more and the supply would be more constrained. Right hydroxychloroquine is the only product that offers the potential for America to get back to work at this time with risking a
“second wave” of deaths (a second wave of infections is inevitable).

I agree with what Trump has said on TV… the decision to use this drug now or later should be a decision between a patient and their physician… I think Trump sees government’s role to make the drug available if patients choose to take it after conferring with their physicians.

Sermo collected data from over 6200 physicians in 30 countries. Hydroxychloroquine was overall chosen as the most effective therapy among physicians treating Covid-19 patients from a list of 15 options (see link below). Based on all the anecdotal evidence, I would use it if I tested positive for the virus and start on it as soon as possible.

Keep in mind, many drugs are approved in other countries before they manage to get through all the hoops are FDA requires in order to establish proper labeling and dosage. For example, at present millions of Americans use CBD for joint pain, but the support for its use remain “anecdotal”.

We know how CBD and Hydroxychloroquine work, but there haven’t been the necessary studies to establish the proper dosage, side effects, drug interactions and efficacy of both products (actually there have been for Hydroxychloroquine for on label purposes but not for off label treatment of Covid 19 patients). Yet by and large the liberal media supports access to CBD and has pulled back support since Trump touted Hydroxycholoroquine as a possible therapy.

Why?
