I think it is a bad idea... I think we need to divide Texas up into the four states it was originally intended to be and expand it to eight Senators instead of two... No, why not?

At this point, adding states is largely a political strategy with dire potential consequences.

Progressive liberalism has become as divisive politically as slavery was in the 1800s. Not morally equivalent by any stretch of the imagination, but politically equivalent.

Any action designed largely to upset the political balance in this country could cause it to tear apart. California and Texas are both considering putting on their election ballots proposals to secede from the country. And the idea of rewriting the Constitution is gaining increasing momentum, but such a movement would likely lead to some states saying not this time...

Politicians are so busy fighting over control of the nation, they forget the design of the nation was intended so no party could control the nation, but rather every state would control most of its own destiny within its borders.

Let's end Federalism and then consider who wants to be a state. Without the power of Federalism, states will need to figure out how to make their domestic economies work and compete with other states... Let the Federal government focus on defending the nation and protecting the civil rights of its citizens, let the states worry about themselves... When we end Federalism, then let places like DC see if they really want statehood or perfer the benefits of Federal spending...
