I remember getting beat up when I was in junior high school by a bunch of African American kids whose houses I passed to get to my house on the way home from school. I guess they were racist, since they beat me up based on the color of my skin... that was my first encounter experiencing racism as a white child.

So if I experienced "racism" at the end of an African American child's fist, does that mean I am not privileged to have grown up the child of an upper middle class white family? Sounds like nonsense to me.

What I have learned is that no matter your skin color, you will meet people in life who reject you because of it. The true "privilege" in life is being born into a two parent family who can afford to provide you a secure and safe upbringing regardless of their skin color.
