I hate to tell you this, but my younger children and older grandchildren who are Gen Zers see you Gen Xers as old and having more in common with baby boomers than themselves.

Even worse, while we baby boomers might be old, at least the Gen X people like our music and some of hair and clothing styles are making a comeback.

What really got my son upset is when his children said why can't you be as fun as grandpa. My son insists he is fun... the children look at me and nod knowingly.

The part of your narrative that I think is true is the older you get, the more you live in the past. Afterall, the past represents "most of your life" and the future is not something most seniors look forward to.
