I am unsure which church you are referring to that "focuses" on homosexuality. It simply identifies homosexuality as a "sin". It does the same with greed, obesity, and many other human behaviors.

Regarding your question regarding whether any Christians are breaking the rules in the Bible, the answer is they all are. The Bible is clear, all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

The issue is not whether homosexuality is a sin... it is. But as we are all sinners, it is not our job to apply God's judgement (as Jesus points out, only those without sin should cast stones). But it is likewise wrong to pretend that homosexuality is not a sin. Instead, perhaps it is best to view homosexuality as just another sin, that we should focus more on our own sins, than the sins of others.

So, while I won't pass judgement on the gay person for their choices and I hope they don't pass judgement on my bad choices even my predisposition to gluttony, I don't want teachers teaching that gluttony or homosexuality are not sins.

Bottom line, there is a chasm between tolerance of sinful behavior since we are all sinners and redefining sin as okay. One of the problems with our modern society is we try to twist the Bible and the Constitution for that matter to mean what we want it to mean, when there is plenty of evidence in history that tells us what those closer to the writing of both documents intended by the words in those documents.

In the case of the old Testament there are thousands upon thousands of Jewish texts not in the Bible that can provide clarity into understanding what Jewish scholars thought the passages meant. For the Constitution we likewise have many documents including the Federalist papers to help us understand the meaning of the Constitution.

Loving one another and being tolerant does not mean lying. Instead, it means understanding we are all flawed and letting God ultimately deal with individual sins that don't threaten others in our society.
