I am finding the opposite problem you write about. Curious how you address it. More and more liberal churches are preaching "sin is not sin". But that is false and it leads to sinful behavior.

Sinful behavior leads to both physical and spiritual death. My daughter helps to care for the homeless, many of them are people broken by a lifetime of sinful behavior. Spend time in these clinics that serve the homeless (or as I did as a youth working in a mental health facility) and the price of a lifetime of sinful behavior shows in the broken minds and bodies of these poor sinners.

Some of them are so far gone, that all that is left is to love them and care for them. But how much better would it have been to love them enough earlier to try to help them escape their sinful lives rather than ignore it or condone it.

Notice the consistent them. Love the person, hate the sin. Regarding judgment, I think you and I are on the same page. We are not put on earth to "judge the person", but we are equipped through God's word to recognize sin.

If sin were not so terrible, God would not have sent his only Son to die an absolute brutal death on the cross. He would have simply have ignored sin as "no biggie". But that is clearly not the case.

I will pray for you to come around to the "middle" ground. Christians have not been placed on earth to judge their fellow man... that is God's job. We have been placed on earth to help lift one another up and to love one another... but love does not ignore sin and more than it ignores suffering.

You should still preach against the "laissez faire" approach to sin. Jesus did not ignore sin and He did not fail to point it out. But He loved the sinner. That is the middle ground.
