I actually do support more legal immigration to relieve the labor shortage. And it is true, Trump tried to limit immigration to drive up wages of low wage workers. And you are correct, higher wages do add to inflation if they are not offset with increases in productivity.

But that is not what is driving our current inflation. To the extent we have some inflation do to higher wages for low wage workers, I am okay with that and the 2% of so inflation we had under Trump seems a worthwhile "cost" of raising wages for low wage workers.

Trump's tariffs on Chinese goods had very minimal inflationary impacts. Biden has elected to leave them on because they were achieving their purpose. Trump failure was not to apply tariffs to more products coming out of China of strategic value to the US.

Trump argued rightly in my opinion that America needs to retain control of its core strategic needs... as a construction guy, he saw steel as one of those strategic needs... I agree with him on steel. Where he failed was not to pursue a strategy of making us not dependent on China for PPE and drug manufacturing or even on Taiwan and China for microchips.

So, I don't disagree that some of the Trump's policies were inflationary but inflation under Trump was not a problem... it it had been then some pivot would have been called for.

Biden's stimulus package and other big spending packages combined with his extended and supplemental unemployment benefits which many experts say was a "stealth increase" in the minimum wage and suppressing our oil and gas industries are the big drivers of the current inflation expecially give what is going on in Ukraine. This calls for pivot, but Biden is doubling down.

Biden's policies just did not fit with the times.

Trump's goals were economic growth, job growth, and wage growth... But your point, that some of the trade-offs to achieve those goals do produce some inflation... the issue is simply whether inflation is tolerable or not... presently it is not. Once inflation hits 3% or so, it is time to pivot. Biden keeps doubling down...
