How the infrastructure bill impasse be resolved

Let the Democrats prepare the things they want funded in the infrastructure bill. Let the Republicans cut the bill up into separate bills. Then let both parties vote on the separate bills. This way everything the Democrats want in the infrastructure bill will be voted on. And the Republicans will have their input.

Things with bipartisan support will likely pass easily and both parties can take credit for what’s in it. Things without bipartisan support can either get passed along strict party lines with the Democrats taking credit or blame for what’s in it. A third bucket could include things that with a bit of massaging could gain bipartisan support. My guess is the what passes would be greater than what the Republicans normally would support, but less than what Democrats are advocating.

Imagine that approach and how much it would improve bipartisanship. Sure some things would still get passed along party lines, but those things would require the sponsoring party to take “ownership” of the bill and the voters can decide whether they agreed or disagreed with that decision.
