Flynn's original "crime" is exactly the same one Hunter Biden committed except Hunter went on to commit tax fraud also (hence the IRS investigation).

The current scuttlebutt is the DOJ is waiting to charge Hunter until Biden is ready to leave office so he can pardon him on the way out the door.
