Equating a riot with an insurrection is misleading.

The country simply is not buying the insurrection narrative, the facts don't add up. Who launches an attempt to take over the most powerful country in the world with a few hundred out of shape, overweight people in their 50s (in fact, three of the deaths during the riot were heart or stroke related due to poor health). Does this sound like the kind of planning that an insurrection would entail or a bunch of irate voters angry that their concerns were being ignored.

No wonder 72% of Americans polled define January 6th as a riot, not an insurrection. To help with the math, that suggests that very few non-Democrats are buying the "insurrection" narrative and many Democrats have begun rejecting it.

In fact, most Trump supporters sympathize with the frustration of those rioters while rejecting their resorting to violence to express that frustration. However, the Democratic response to the riot has far more Americans concerned, than the riot itself.

This Fall, the country will begin dismantling the power the Democrats have accrued, the old fashion way... at the ballot box. They are sick of Democrats reliving the riot of January 6th, while the country burns down around them socially and economically. Republicans are likely to win solid control of the House and may take the Senate.

However, the Democrats should be given credit for an amazingly good job at protecting House seats that would have been under attack if they had not abused their power at the state level to gerrymander a number of "at risk" seats and to marginalize conservative voters. So much for their claims to be the bastion of democracy.

Most people increasingly support the reasons the January 6th rioters... rioted. And that is where you post fails. You confuse the fact, that the vast majority of Trump supporters and increasingly independents sympathize with the rioters' reasons for rioting, while at the same time condemning how they acted on those beliefs.

Instead, most Trump supporters and independents believe the sun is setting on the rise to power of progressive Democrats and the means to end that power will be found in the ballot box starting this Fall and continuing in 2024.

My guess is it will be the Democrats claiming election irregularities as they lose control of the House, possibly the Senate, and some governorships, as well as state legislature seats.

Democracy is about to be tested in less than 60 days... hopefully, the Democrats will be as willing to cede power as they were to wield it.
