Don't write off carbon fuel. I think it will be huge in the future, except rather than using fossil fuels the world will rely on renewable biodiesel and biogas. The forecast is that within 10 years, biodiesel costs will be below $3/gallon and I expect that to go below $2 somedays.

While developed countries may not be willing to share nuclear technology with developing nations, nearly all developing nations have "farmers". Teaching them to grow algae and other carbon dense inputs for biodiesel will help them create their own domestic energy programs. Moreover, biodiesel is not dependent on an extensive electric grid infrastructure.
