Democrats more than Republians are trying to "change" America even though most Americans want it "tuned" not changed.

The so called "rise of the far right" includes at most around 6% of Americans (and their numbers are not growing), while the far left encompasses 8% of Americans (and their numbers are not growing).

Traditional conservatives make up around 19% of the country. They include people that made up the Tea Party and libertarian elements of the Republican party. Neither are "far right" ideologies.

The remaining 67% of Americans fall in the "exhausted majority" category that wouldn't mind some minor fine tuning changes but push back against "far right" or "far left" change. Some refer to this group as either moderate Democrats or center Republicans. This group embraces classical liberalism with its emphasis on individual human rights and equal civil rights over collectivism/socialism which has invaded progressive ideology these days.

Actually progressives lean toward authority for the simple reason that progressive policies can only be put into practice under a more permanent authoritarian government. By definition entitlement programs that redistribute income and wealth are a central government function.

Even beyond economics, let's look at social policies. Take a simple issue like "vaccine" mandates... which party supported a centralized mandate and which party argued against them. Go back and look at ObamaCare, which party supported penalties if individuals choose not to buy health care and which party opposed them and eliminated the mandate.

Democrats seem to want to outsource charity to the government and Republicans tend to believe it is better done by compassionate individuals giving to targeted charities. During Covid the conservative funded Good Samaritan chartiy showed up to provide additional hospital beds, no similar response came from liberals.

Another example, is natural disaster relief. Chruch groups and other charities are often on site making an impact hours, days, and often weeks before government can get organized... those charities are largely funded by conservatives. Meanwhile, people are still trying to figure where all the money government spent went.

Republicans are the champions of equality, Democrats have embraced equity. Very different concepts.

It actually sounds like you are more conservative than you realize, but simply have not come to terms with that.
