I think Markle and Trump share one characteristic that turns people off on both sides of the pond. In their own way they are always looking to be the center of attention. When Trump and Markle do things that seem intended to draw attention to themselves the public gets annoyed.

On the positive side, love or hate Trump and Markle, they get the last laugh, since that love or hate feeds their need for attention and to remain relevant. Imagine if either did something to grab attention and the public just yawned.
