As someone who lives in a border state, I think you make a terrible argument for illegal immigration and therefore for voting for Harris.
The issue in southern California is that our minority (primarily Hispanic) neighborhoods are overrun with illegal immigrants. What does overrun mean?
The housing shortage is so acute, that rents are risen so high, many poor legal Hispanic families are being pushed out of their homes. The tenant density in rental units typically exceeds the legal allowed density by a factor of two or more (to help alleviate the housing and afford the rent).
But it goes beyond housing. The illegal immigrants compete for jobs. Wage levels for workers have been depressed by newly arrived immigrants not eligible for entitlements being willing to work illegally off the books.
Then of course there are the crowded classrooms and emergency rooms that are simply not equipped for the surge in numbers. Think about illegal immigration as a "hurricane" on minority communities that did not see the disaster coming.
With respect to crime, for young men that can't find a job, working as a soldier for the cartel that controls their neighborhood is pretty appealing. If the young girl with no place to turn, being sex trafficked may be her only option (our church supports an organization focused on helping young girls caught up in sex trafficking and it should be no surprise illegal immigrant young girls are often the victims).
It should come as no surprise why Hispanics are among the strongest advocates of controlling our borders and why so many inner-city black communities want the migration of illegal immigrants to their neighborhoods to end.
We like to think of this as a "big and rich" country, but our country is $35 trillion in debt, several of our states are facing bankruptcy, and most of the illegal immigrants that come to this country are not migrating to the places devoid of people, but rather to those already overcrowded.
Illegal immigration is not about crime, though no one should be allowed to reside in this country coming from a foreign country without being background checked and having a health check. That is common sense. Illegal immigration is about the rate at which our country or any developed nation can absorb newcomers into their nations without creating serious issues. The US is not alone in this... Canada and all of the EU appears to have the same issues and are slowly gravitating to the same solutions.
Understanding the immigrant issue and why advanced economies need to control immigration is not hard to understand. Harris and Biden have not shown any willingness to wander into the minority neighborhoods getting crushed by illegal immigration, they are listening to their wealthy supporters that enjoy the benefits of cheap labor while not experiencing the effects of overcrowded minority neighborhoods.
